Since April 10, 2025, travelers using ordinary Canadian passports have needed a Brazilian Visitor Visa for tourism and other qualifying short visits. Eligible Canadian citizens can apply electronically before departure.
Which Canadian travelers need a visa?
Ordinary Canadian passport holders visiting for tourism or qualifying short-term business generally need a visa before travel, including arrival by air, cruise or land. Work, study, residence and other activities can require a different visa category.
Canadian applicant document checklist
- a signed Canadian passport valid for the entire trip, with two free visa pages;
- a completed online visa application;
- a recent 2 × 2 inch photo on a white background;
- payment of the official US$80.90 fee;
- flight reservation confirmation showing entry and exit; and
- a recent printed bank statement showing 30 days of transactions and sufficient funds under the published consular guidance.
A business visitor may also need a company letter. Minor applicants can need a birth certificate, parent passport copies and notarized parental authorization.
How Canadians apply
- Complete the application on the official Brazil eVisa platform.
- Upload the photo, passport and supporting travel and financial documents.
- Pay the official fee and monitor the application for any requested correction.
- After approval, download and print the eVisa PDF for travel.
Processing and timing
Review can take up to 10 business days once the application is complete, verified and submitted to the responsible consular post. Because a correction can extend the timeline, the official portal recommends applying approximately two months before the trip.
Validity and permitted stay
An eVisa issued to a Canadian citizen can be valid for up to five years and can permit multiple entries. Always rely on the actual expiry printed on the issued visa and the validity of the linked passport.
The permitted stay is separate and is generally limited to up to 90 days per year for an eVisa traveler. A long-validity visa does not allow uninterrupted residence.
What to carry
- the Canadian passport used to apply;
- a printed copy of the approved eVisa PDF;
- return or onward travel details;
- accommodation information; and
- supporting financial evidence if requested.
