Since April 10, 2025, ordinary Australian passport holders have needed a Brazilian Visitor Visa for tourism and eligible short-term business. The electronic application can be completed before departure.
Who needs a visa?
Travelers presenting an ordinary Australian passport generally require a Visitor Visa before a tourism or qualifying short business visit to Brazil, including entry by air, sea or land. The eVisa does not cover local employment, long-term study or residence.
Australian applicant document checklist
- a signed Australian passport valid for the entire trip, with two free visa pages;
- a completed online application form;
- a recent 2 × 2 inch passport-style photograph on a white background;
- payment of the official US$80.90 fee;
- confirmation of flights into and out of Brazil; and
- a recent bank statement covering the previous 30 days and showing sufficient travel funds under the published consular guidance.
Short-term business travelers may need a company letter. A child’s individual application may require additional birth, parent identity and authorization documents.
How Australians apply online
- Complete the electronic form on the official Brazil eVisa platform.
- Upload the passport, compliant photo and supporting documents.
- Pay the official fee and watch for any request to correct or complete the file.
- Download the approved eVisa PDF and print it before travel.
How early to apply
A complete, verified file can take up to 10 business days for consular processing. The official portal recommends applying around two months before the planned trip because document corrections or further evidence can add time.
Validity and length of stay
An Australian citizen’s eVisa can be valid for up to five years and supports multiple entries, subject to the actual visa and passport expiry dates.
The length of each permitted stay is a separate immigration limit. eVisa travelers are generally allowed up to 90 days per year, with the final admission period determined by Brazilian immigration.
Arrival checklist
- carry the same Australian passport used for the application;
- print the approved eVisa PDF and keep a backup copy;
- save your approval email and PDF digitally;
- keep return or onward travel evidence accessible; and
- have accommodation and supporting trip details ready.
