Before you fly

Your entry essentials

Most international visitors should have these items ready and accessible—not buried in checked luggage.

  • A valid travel document
Your passport should be valid throughout the trip and match any visa application.
  • A Brazilian visa or eVisa, if required
The rule is based primarily on the passport you present.
  • Return or onward travel information
Keep booking details available during check-in and arrival.
  • Accommodation details
Save the address and contact information for your first stay.
  • Evidence of funds, if requested
Supporting financial documents may also be required for an eVisa.
  • Minor and customs documents
Children and travelers carrying declarable goods may need extra paperwork.

The border decision is final

Having a visa does not guarantee admission. Brazilian immigration authorities make the final decision when you arrive.

More than one passport?

Your requirement follows the travel document you present. Use the same passport throughout booking, visa application and entry.

Documents & timing

Prepare before you press submit

The application is digital, but the evidence behind it still matters.

01

Adult application documents

Be ready with a signed passport valid for the trip, a compliant passport-style photograph, flight reservation, and recent financial evidence. Additional documents may be requested.

02

Applicants under 18

Each child needs their own visa when required. Depending on the circumstances, a birth certificate, parent passport copies and notarized parental authorization may be needed.

03

Give the application enough time

Consular review can take up to 10 business days after a complete and verified application reaches the relevant post. The official portal strongly recommends applying about two months before planned travel so there is time to correct or complete the file.

Avoid making non-refundable travel arrangements before your visa has been issued.

Beyond the visa

Passport, health & customs

Three separate checks can affect a smooth arrival. Keep each one on your planning list.

Passport consistency

Use the passport connected to your visa. Brazilian nationals cannot receive a Brazilian eVisa; dual nationals should follow Brazilian travel-document guidance.

Read passport guidance

Health preparation

Brazil does not generally require proof of vaccination for entry. Keep routine vaccines current; yellow fever vaccination is recommended for risk areas and should usually be received at least 10 days before travel.

Customs declarations

Normal personal belongings usually do not require a declaration. Use Brazil’s e-DBV when carrying declarable goods or more than the equivalent of US$10,000 in cash. The declaration can be completed online before travel.

View all FAQs
Do U.S. citizens need a visa for Brazil in 2026?

Yes. Since April 10, 2025, travelers using an ordinary U.S. passport generally need a Visitor Visa for tourism and other eligible short visits. U.S. passport holders are eligible for the online Brazil eVisa.

Who can apply for a Brazil eVisa?

The electronic Brazil Visitor Visa is currently available to eligible citizens of the United States, Canada and Australia who hold valid passports from those countries.

How much does the official eVisa cost?

The current official eVisa fee is US$80.90. Independent application-assistance providers may charge separate service fees, which should be identified distinctly.

How long can eVisa processing take?

Consular posts may take up to 10 business days once a complete, verified application has been submitted for analysis. The official portal recommends applying about two months ahead.

Does Brazil require proof of vaccination?

Brazil does not generally require vaccination proof simply to enter. Its Ministry of Health recommends keeping routine vaccinations current and recommends yellow fever vaccination for travelers going to risk areas.

Does a child need a separate visa?

Yes, when a child travels on a passport that requires a visa, they generally need their own visa. Minor applications can require additional identity and parental documents.

Plan the paperwork

Check your requirements before you travel.

If you hold a U.S., Canadian or Australian passport, review the eVisa route well before departure.
